Younicos builds Europe’s largest battery storage facility for WEMAG and enters into partnership with Samsung

Schwerin based green utility WEMAG plans the construction of Europe’s largest and first commercial battery storage facility to balance short-term grid fluctuations. The battery storage facility will be supplied by Younicos AG, a Berlin based company that is focused on the grid integration of renewable energy.Operated on the European control reserve market, the battery storage facility shall contribute to balancing grid frequency on the transmission network level. Supplier of the lithium ion cells that will be used is the Korean company Samsung SDI that has entered into a strategic partnership with Younicos to construct commercially competitive, grid-attached utility-scale storage facilities. ARGONAS Corporate Finance Advisors has advised Younicos on the development and structuring of the project design for battery storage facilities.
